Funk

Nobody likes a fun killer...so thanks a lot stinky Sea Dogs for a 6-2 ass whoopin' on Wednesday night. A whoopin that happened almost entirely within a 3 minute span of the third period. The Sea Dogs are almost as much of a downer as me and I have been spending years perfecting my "misery" skillz.

Wha? Nah!

I am feeling better, crawling out of my neurosis induced rut. I think that a shootout win by team Canada and getting to look at Martin Brodeur, his sexy Santa belly and his scruffy old chest protector helped a bit.

...but this is a Mooseheads blog not a Team Canada blog and it is most definitely not my "dear, Diary" so I should just get over my emotional outbursts and stick to hockey.

The Moose played a scrappy game against the Sea Dogs and the Sea Dogs scrapped back. As Lady GaGa would say "It's not how big, it's how mean" which could, if you would like, help to explain the usefullness of Garrett Clarke. I would be a fool if I ignored his diva-like behavior since it sometimes makes the game funner to watch. I mean, it's not fun to watch your team lose in the last minutes of the game while Clarke sits in the penalty box diddling with himself. No, that's not fun at all. What is fun is when he destroys boys with big hits and frustrates the shit out of the opposing team and makes all hell break loose on the ice.

I ascribe to a similar philosophy but I actually prefer big AND mean (take that as you will)...

... so when Clarke throws Sauve off his game and makes him behave all like the Cunty princess of Cuntland on blades, well, then I get really excited. I don't yell and scream like some Mooseter club loonies (oh, they know who they are), instead I just sit and calmly watch it all unfold like a graceful display of dickishness and anarchy. It is beautiful. Well, not Clarke's acting. That is more in line with the work of Heidi Montag than, say, Cate Blanchett. Kid deserves a Razzie for his dives.

I mean, really? What did you expect would happen when the "best" team in the country finally decided to "show up"?

The positive part was the Mooseheads penalty kill, which was a travesty that first night in Rimouski, was back on form. The Dogs were only able to score on 1/8 power play opportunities.

The Moose also DOMINATED faceoffs - winning 41 of 58. So if you are looking at the Sea Dog's Zach Phillips and thinking "oh wow": 1 goal, 2 assists and 1st star honors - just remember he was 1/9 on the faceoffs.  He ain't so hot!

On a similar vein, when I had looked at Tomas Knotek's faceoff stats while in Rimouski I almost cried. I was ready to fly to the Czech republic, kidnap his girlfriend and have her forcibly confined back in Canada. We could smuggle her from game to game in a hockey bag in the guts of the bus. Tomas' rommie could sleep in the hall while he got his 'thang' on. Tomas plays much, MUCH better when there is a girl around that he feels the need to impress*.

No diss on Tomas though. He played an OK game. He wasn't as dominant as he can be, but he did have a goal. He is now 3 points from that elusive PPG status (48 points in 51 games). Bety had the other goal and was the recipient of starz. Cookies go to Linden Bahm though because we had a "moment" in the first period where he was being all feisty... which ended with him blocking a shot and getting hurt and then beings slightly less feisty...but still. Don't deny us our moment!

As for Corbeil. Wow. You know during the breakaways and all that he was a total beast. In fact he was a beast for about 57 minutes. Unfortunately, it is all fun and games until someone loses an eye ...or allows 3 goals in a brief 3 minute span. No hate. Just love. Love and chocolate! I am a very forgiving girl. I wonder if Mathieu can do 1-legged squats? hmmmmmmmm. If he demonstrated a one-leg squat for me I would make sure he got his chocolate. Actually,  Delmas also gets chocolate. I mean he answered Ovie over Crosby. That is the correct answer! No one-legged squats required.

Special note to Alex LeMeowMeowMeowMeow.
Maybe fighting isn't your thing. There is really no harm in being a "lover, not a fighter". Of course, there is no harm in being a lover AND a fighter either, but that is more of an off-ice activity.

11 days later

I hope everything has calmed down in the world.

Clearly, I have brought the blog back online. To punish me for going offline the Moose played bunch of awesome games and got 5 muthafuckin' points in their last 3 games

...and my blog was down (insert your own reason why in here) so I couldn't write about my beloved Mooseheads.

For those not in the know the Mooseheads spent this past week being awesome. They lost 5-4 in the shootout against the #1 ranked Saint john Sea Dogs, then they (finally) defeated their arch rivals the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles by a score of 3-2. Last, but not least, they won 5-4 in the shootout against the PEI Rocket.

The only team in the division that the Mooseheads have not yet defeated this season - the BATHURST TITAN. There are no words. NO WORDS. Well, one word - shame!

  • There was Garrett Clarke drama. See here, here, and here.
  • Knotek has been possessed by a demon. He is all feisty and shit. Hitting people even!
  • Desjardins is on fire with  2 goals, 2 assists and one shootout winner in the past three games.
  • The newspaper wrote a story about my defenceman boyfriend Hannay. Speaking of boys who fight: I am watching hockey highlights right now and I wonder - why the fuck does anybody even try to fight Chara? It's not even like you get a moral victory. It's just stupid and embarrassing for the guy who is "not Chara".

gone dark

Yeah, sorry about that. At first I swore I would not blog until I had dealt with pressing real-life issues. Those were dealt with by last Wednesday so I really have no excuse for not blogging about the last two games in a timely manner. Needless to say, not having to write anything for a whole week was like a dreamy dream. Fuck the English language.

So, I guess I should get to it.

Mooseheads vs Montreal Jr (Moose lose 4-1)
Well, the first period was exciting. When the team allowed 4 goals in the second period I gave up on life. Sitting through the third period just felt like torture because of the sense of complete helplessness. It must be how my cat feels when I force her to cuddle me. I never want to experience that again. Can you do that for me my sweet, darling mooselets?

Cookies to Grant for the only goal in what felt like the longest stretch of goallessness in the history of hockey.  Cookies are for eating, not for hiding in your underware.

Mooseheads vs Screagles (Moose lose 2-0)
Despite the fact that the team were shutout, this game was decidedly less painful. Games against the Screagles are always delightful and scrappy...even when there is no actual scrapping. Cookies are to be shared between Bety and Bernard for coming out in this game with full force, and new goalie Delmas for decreasing my sense of hopelessness with his >0.9% sv%. There is a chance for you yet Delmas, but remember: cookies are for eating, not for hiding down your pants.

PS J.Bernard. We are soooo back on. I was going to give you a choice about it but then I realized we never talked...so how could you let me know? You can't!!! I have made an executive decision for us. If I catch you sexy dancing for Alex MacDonald I will rip his mullet weave out...unless, of course, I can have you both.

Mooseheads vs Wildcats (Moose lose 3-0)
In a homage to the loss of Baby LBD I did not pay attention to this game. How dare LBD leave me to go to Quebec? The only benefit of this move was our acquisition of Delmas...Oh, and the fact that LBD gets to work with Roy. I just don't think he was taking my feeling into consideration. ...and to think that I cooed for his wearing of white belts and shoes (yes, gentle readers, he goes all Frenchy style on us too).

Twenty-five shots on goal and yet, nothing. I blame Nicola Riopel. He probably shouldn't be in this league.

Cookies go to me because I have a tendency to drown my sorrows in food.

Mooseheads vs Sagueneens (Moose win 5-1)
Ah now that is more like it. Randall's one timer was a thing of pure beauty. Who knew that anybody on this team could 'one-time' it. Sometimes, as a group of intelligent, deep thinking and gentle boys, my moosies spend far too much time coddling the puck with their stick and contemplating their next move. Pucks are for shooting, not for coddling... and definitely not for putting down your pants in an attempt to look like you have a bigger schlong.

Pucks were getting all up in the Sags' net. The Mooseheads had 5 goals (Randell, Bernard, Gelinas, MacDonald and Andrews) in 40 shots and boys were driving the net to get those rebounds.  Amazeballs. Why can't they do this every night?

It's as easy as that!

With the Sags came a return to winning and the second coming of Alexis Piette (the first, of course, being his visit with the Lewiston Maineiacs before being traded to the Sags at X-mas). At some point Alexis played an excellent game of keep-away, scooting around the entire perimeter of our zone with the puck, and at that moment I desperately wanted him back. It's not just for the eyebrows.

Cookies go to MacDonald and Bernard. MacDonald had his first goal as a Moosehead, which is always something to be celebrated with abundant overeating and a few beer. Of course I am terribly selfish and I demand more goals. Immediately if possible. Yes Jessyko, cookies are for storing in your pants but only if I can...

Mooseheads vs Voltigeurs (Moose win 2-1)
Bitches. The Volts stole Delmas' shutout with just over 3 minutes left in the game. Peter Delmas stopped 35 shots on his way to a win over the league powerhouse Drummondville Voltigeurs (33-13-0-2). It was brilliant.

Abeltshauser (big slapshot from the point) and Amyot both got their goals on the powerplay. Knotek, Bernard, Gelinas and Andrews had assists.

Jake Allen was in nets for the Volts, playing what was his 3rd game in  a row. Why they felt the need to play him against one of the worst teams in the league is beyond me? I was tempted to throw Allan off his game by holding up a big sign that just said "SILVER" on it, but I had no bristle board and I had not thought of this in advance of the game. It turns out that it was not necessary to be so mean and the Mooseheads could defeat the Volts without my help.

To say that the final three minutes was stressful is an understatement. The Moose had lost their 2 goal cushion and spent the last minute playing 6-4 after taking a penalty for too many men on the ice. The defensive effort was staggering and I was desperately hoping one of the boys could thoroughly crush the Volts' spirits with an empty net goal but everyone knows that empty net goals are really not part of the Mooseheads' skill set.

Dear Peter Delmas,
Congratulations on your QMJHL defensive player of the week award. In two games you recorded two wins and had a 1.0 GAA and a 0.964 sv%.  I would lick cookie crumbs off your taint for that. Please, don't tell your mother I offered... and for God's* sake don't tell my mother either. What do you mean, you don't read my blog? You should get on that boy!

Dear Tomas

Gosh, has it been 2.5 years?
I know you probably think that I don't appreciate you because I do not gush and fawn over you. Nothing could be further from the truth. You wear the jersey right? So that means you are indeed one of my boyfriends. Captain boyfriend!

Without you my other boyfriends would not be a cohesive unit (last night was a fluke, right?).  Chaos would ensue.  Charles Bety would just randomly fall over, Randell would be shooting pucks at the boards, Metcalfe would be punching everything that moves, Gabriel Desjardins would marry Carl Gelinas, we wouldn't be able to keep Garrett Clarke out of the penalty box, and Gerrad Grant would always have his hands on his stick (the other stick).  oh wait....

Then why don't I fawn, you may ask? The thing about supah-stah forwards is that they have LOTS of girlfriends and I am an immensely jealous kinda girl. I am not mentally prepared to put you first and thus put myself in that kind of situation. The kinda situation that could lead to me ripping the heads off of teenage girls in Knotek jerseys and yelling SCRAG at their disembodied remains.

To tell you the truth when I saw the team play PEI last week I was not thinking "oh hey, this could be the last time I will ever see Tomas in a Mooseheads jersey". To be dumped like this. God, that would be horrible. One day I am smiling and watching you make Gerrad Grant and Travis Randell be the best that they can be and the next day I find a post-it on my seat at the MC that says "to je více než"*.

The thing is this- it takes +/-23 boys and 1 girl to make this relationship work. Everybody has to be on board. Some boys go unwillingly, others go by choice. You have a choice.  If one boy no longer wants to be in the relationship then there is nothing I can do about it. As many of us who have experienced heartbreak before know - it only takes one person to end it.

If you are going to do it  then do it quick. Don't just stop talking to us and pretend you are busy. Girls don't deal well with being ignored. You just gotta come out and say, "hey Moose Country, it's been great, but I met this team in insert shitty Quebecois town here and they do the craziest things that you just can't do. I am growing up, getting older, and I want adventure and a President's cup before I die. A championship team can get me recognition and maybe I can finally get the accolades I deserve. I just can't do that with you."

I will not be happy about it but I think I will understand.

Unless you leave us for PEI *stab stab*. Please, do not go to PEI. No one likes PEI.  They will bring you nothing but misery. So far this year two guys have just up and quit and they had a coaching change. It is a team full of miscreants (Southorn), thuggish lady-beaters (Doyle) and rejects (Cousineau). They are a perennial disappointment and have NEVER made it past the first round of the playoffs. They loaded up and yet the best they can do is 6th place. PEI is not the answer...unless you like to play Anne of Green Gables in the bedroom.

That being said - please, don't go anywhere. I like your impish grin, your cute accent and your abundant fancy moves. We really don't need more draft pics, just smarter draft choices.

Just the facts

The Halifax Mooseheads took on Montreal in Montreal and came away with a point in a 4-3 shootout loss.

Lines:
Bahm, Bety,  Stoddard
Randell, Knotek, Grant
Lemieux, Andrews, Gelinas
Bernard, Pelletier, Desjardins

Metcalfe, Hannah
Amyot, Brunet
Dimitruk, Gillard

Costello was playing GQMF

About the Montreal JR:
Jake Allen was in nets for Mtl while my beloved David Stich was out with the flu.

The game:
Within the first minute Bahm got into a fight.
The Mooseheads had the first goal on 5 on 5 play - Dr Carlossis from Pelletier and Hannay

Speaking of Hannay:

Is this not a face that everyones mother could love?

I think I am developing a problem. When you are 17 it is called a crush, when you are my age... it is called a problem. I think it's the joker smile. I am a sucker for joker smiles (see posts tagged Tomy Joly). I have to stay away from the CHL...or start watching the games blindfolded.

The Mooseheads then got their second goal on the PP. Knotek made a pass to Randell who had come in from the point. Randell shot and the puck was deflected in by Bahm. The Moose finished the first period with a 2-0 lead.

Early in the second Corbeil was suffering from technical difficulty (an injured hand) and needed to be tended to so Grondin was put into nets. Grondin allowed a goal (on 3 shots) and was then immediately taken out of the net. Before the end of the second both Gouchie and Chouinard also scored to bring the Montreal Jr into the lead 3-2. Damn ex-Screagel. Don't say I didn't warn you!

In the third period Knotek scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway to tie the game 3-3 and Corbeil made a huge save on a point blank shot by Parkes.

The game went into overtime and nothing happened but it was awesome because it means that the Moose would be guaranteed 1 point. Every point is precious.

Tomas Knotek was the only Mooseheads to get a point in the shootout. Really? Randell? Whatever you say Cam!

Knotek (Hfx) – scores
Trevor Parks (Mtl) – scores
Gerrad Grant (Hfx) – save
Matthew Brenton (Mtl) - save
Carl Gelinas (Hfx) – save
Guillaume Asselin (Mtl) – save

Travis Randell (Hfx) – save
Jeremie Gouchie (Mtl) – scores

Notes:

  • I think I heard Bernard's name... once.
  • How could I not give cookies to Bahm?  Am I on crack? Knotek MUST share.
  • Both Knotek and Bahm received game stars. Knotek was 3rd star for 1 G, 1A, and one SOG. Bahm was 2nd star with 1 G,  and1 round of foxy boxing.
  • Bety won 13 of 22 faceoffs
  • Jake Allen faced 35 shots, Corbeil faced 32 shots (+ 3 for Grondin).

gute Nachricht

Mooseheads defenceman Konrad Abeltshauser has been invited to play for his home country of Germany in the World Junior hockey tournament this year.

A trip to the world juniors means that Konrad will be away for most of December but I am OK with that because I have other unusually tall defencemen to keep me warm (right Hannay). A trip to the world Juniors will increase his exposure and a good performance combined with worldwide exposure will increase his odds of being drafted by an NHL team. Drafty is good.

Special K

According to an interview with Konrad on Sports and Moore Konrad was "freaked out. He was soooo excited he jumped around and turned up the music. I was happy that my billets weren't home because they would think I'm crazy"

Konrad is being too cute. He needs to stop cougarbaiting because it could get dangerous (for him).

I also expect Tomas Knotek to receive an invite from the Czech team, so there will be no 'Special K' (choose your favorite flavour - Konrad or Knotek) for Moosefans in December. I can deal.

2 games 1 post

Excuse my lateness. My internet has been shittier than my hockey team's win/loss record.

Halifax vs Montreal Thurs Oct 29

Coming into this game the Montreal Jr were on a 6 game losing streak and were missing Star Goaltender Jake Allen. They were, what was considered by many, ripe for the picking. Apparently not so.

The Mooseheads lost by a score of 6-2 and possibly made me fall asleep. In my dreams Matt Stoddard sometimes looked like he was doing fancy things on the ice. You know the world has turned upside down when Stoddard starts to look like the fanciest boy on the ice for brief bouts.

Players worth mentioning include, and may be limited to: Tomas Knotek, who had both of the Mooseheads goals and who played an excellent game all by himself…starting midway through the game. Well hey…at least someone was able to turn it up...eventually.

Mathieu Corbeil got the start in nets but was pulled after allowing 4 goals in 28 shots, including one 24 seconds into the game. Upon being pulled Mat threw a bit of a tantrum and smashed his stick on the boards. Someone has an angry side. I like it. I expect every goalie to lose their shit at least once, and he who loses it the most fantastically with all the bells, whistles and fireworks is the one I heart the most. I like a guy with a nasty side.

Grondin came on in replacement and was solid, allowing goals only on a penalty shot and on a David Stich breakaway. This is where the horror begins. Now let me explain the penalty shot: Montreal’s Brenton was on a breakaway, he drove the net and he got his shot off. The shot was stopped by Grondin and then Brenton was touched by a Moosehead player…or at least that is what it looked like. Well apparently getting your shot off is not good enough for the refs because they gave him a total BS penalty shot on which he scored.

Fine! Now if that were not bad enough, a couple of minutes later a Moosehead gets hauled down in the offensive zone and David Stich gets a breakaway on the non–call. This also results in a goal. Coach Cam Russel proceeded to lose his shit by grabbing one of the boys sticks and breaking it over the bench. He did not look as good throwing a fit because he was not wearing goalie gear. Needless to say - Bench minor.

When all is said and done Montreal had 42 shots on net while the Moose had a meager 24 with 10 dangerous shots. The Moose went 0/4 on the PP while allowing 2 goals on 7 PP opportunities for Montreal.

Tomas Knotek walks away with 2 goals, a game star, and cookies; while Linden Bahm had an assist and Abeltshauser had 2 assists to ease the pain of his still crippled wrist. Spencer Metcalfe revealed that he likes Scott Stevens but I think he is just saying this to butter me up.

Mooseheads waste opportunity

Halifax vs Cape Breton, Oct 30, 2009

More nap time. Halifax lost to the Screagles by a score of 4-1. The Moose got their first and only goal when Hannay directed a wide shot on net which Linden Bahm was able to redirect…right past Olivier Roy. Hzaaa.

One goal, now it is time to relax, right?

One Moose goal was followed by 4 unanswered goals for the Screagels and yet another Mooseheads loss.

The Eagles had 2 goals on 5 power play opportunities and the Mooseheads were a dismal 0/6 on their own PP. Special teams are going right down the toilet lately. They also lost in the faceoff circle. I am beginning to believe that this team doesn’t even want to win…or they want to get someone fired. In the meantime we all suffer.

Other teams are beginning to realize that if they are on a losing streak (such as the Eagles inability to win at home) the Moose will help them break it. The Mooseheads are currently on an 11 game losing streak and are 1-17-0-1. It is also beginning to look as if they are losing momentum.

Positives:
Linden Bahm has two points in his last two games. Way to step it up. I am looking for an upper-tier forward boyfriend. Are you available?

Cookies go to Sawyer Hannay who went toe-to-toe with that asshat Ashton Bernard and was not taken down. He got a couple of really great punches on Bernard and I always get excited whenever bad things happen to Ashton Bernard’s face (even though he is a Devils prospect). Whenever Hannay gets to play he moves higher and higher in the boyfriend rankings. I like him: he is tall, he can fight, his nose is not wonky (yet) and he appears to be well groomed. If this gets serious enough I might even consider getting a puppy with him.

Grondin played a pretty good game and made a number of big saves despite allowing 4 goals on 29 shots. He also looks likes his reaction time is getting a bit faster. At least the boy can corral pucks. I have learned, unfortunately, that Grondin did let the animals out of his proverbial 'forbidden petting zoo'. The goats were running about unleashed and got themselves into trouble.* They aren't ever coming home.

My own twist

Why Duma Why? *on knees shaking fists at my no-god* DUMA!!!

So Stefan Dumaresque was cut. Fine. I guess I will just have to settle for Grondin. He is spriggin'. It is just, well, he is a little young for me. If we keep Grondin then my team has no goaltenders of legal drinking age. It makes me feel dirty...like when Yetman and Kennedy were both 18. You can't tag team THAT.

There are 5 goalies remaining at camp. Four if you don't count Corbeil: Collier (19), Grondin (17), Burt (18) and Chisholm (17).

The first preseason home game has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 at the Halifax Forum. This is my first chance to stare down a goalie in a LOOONG time. Last summer was not so bad: we went to the third round of the playoffs and this was followed by the IIHFs. All I got this summer was fat ball hockey goalies. You will recognize me at the Forum because I will be the small, pasty one who looks like she is suffering from withdrawls.

Yes, I gots the goalie withdraws so BAD that I have been forced to use my Brodeur bobble head as a pacifier. The whole thing fits in my mouth.

With the most recent set of cuts (Dumaresque, B Bernard, Myers, J. Pelletier and Nadeau) the team is now down to 42 players. Five down, 17-20 left to go.

Cherry picking:

Who is likely not going? Well, the team have acquired the rights to forward Matt Stoddard from the Saint John Sea Dogs for a 7th round pick. In addition, Mooseheads 2009 11th round defensive draft pick Stephen Gillard has decided to forgo the NCAA and stay at Moose camp. He had previously committed to the University of Maine Blackbears.

I just have one* thing to say about NCAA prospects. Just because they had decided at some point to go NCAA and then at some other point decided to go back on their word does not make them better than all the other non-NCAA players. Just because they changed their minds it doesn't mean that we have to get on our knees for them. I mean really - where are all the NCAA superstars? Is the NCAA churning out stars en masse? If all these kids decided to go NCAA instead of Q would they have become NCAA stars? If you just answered "not likely" then it is time to get off your damn knees.

With every guy we add to our team my femme-boner softens. I don't feel good about this season. I am sure I will inevitably fall in love with the boys on the final roster...but right now I don't have a lot of hope, not in their ability to play hockey at this level.

For example - remember Matt Snow? The guy who "fell down go boom" - a lot. When Matt left the Moose last year, after playing 25 games (3G, 6A), he went to the Bridgewater Lumberjacks where in 17 games he had 17 goals and 6 assists.

You know who else played for the Lumberjacks? Matt Stoddard. In 17 games he had 6 goals and 11 assists. Not exactly lighting up the MJAHL! Why does Stoddard look so hot in Moose camp? Well, maybe it is because he is playing against a bunch of inexperienced 15 year old Midgit AAA players. Dude is 19.

Matt Snow wasn't good enough for last year's Mooseheads team but Matt Stoddard is good enough for this year's team! Is the Zombie Apocalypse upon us?

Is this really what we want to concentrate our efforts on? He has already failed at the Q level. I don't want him here*. Is that harsh? Do we release one of our veterans just to give Stoddard and some rookies a chance. I would take Charles Bety over Matt Stoddard any day of the week. At least we know what Bety can do in the run of a regular Q season- 14 G, 11 A in 59 games as a 3rd/4th line guy on the worst place team in the league. Stoddard had 7G, 15A in 128 career Q games on a good team. If we dump one of our vets to keep this guy I will scream.

The only other thing I can say is - "prove me wrong Stoddard, prove me wrong"!

A special message from the desk of a girl:

JessyKO Bernard. What the fuck are you made from (my guess is goats cheese)? Why are you injured? - AGAIN!!! At this rate you will be the first to succumb to the zombie apocalypse. Shoulder injury my ass! Toughen up boy. You are like one of those contestants that get injured in warm ups for Dancing with the stars. You are Jewel. Have you seen her dancing? She is no triple threat. At this rate neither are you. Jessyko Bernard: singer, dancer, invalid (?). I don't like the sound of that.

The current 42 zombie roster looks like this. Expect at least two of those 20 year olds to go to parts unknown. The trade deadline was last night and the Moose were seemingly unable to trade anybody.

News:
The Moose are looking to Tomas Knotek for an offensive bump. At this point it looks like the boy may get sucked dry as he is the most prolifically offensive 'well' in the Mooseheads roster - and he had less than a 1PPG average for last season. That is saying a lot.

"I have always been an offensive player so I hope I can score a lot of goals this year and help the team," Knotek said. "Hopefully it will be better than last year."

...Knotek said all summer long his plan was to come back to Halifax for the 2009-10 season. Unlike his 2008-09 teammate Jan Stransky, who jumped at the chance to sign with a pro team back in the Czech Republic, Knotek said that thought never crossed his mind.

"I always knew that I would be back this year," Knotek said. "I didn’t have any reason to stay home (for hockey). I feel really good here and I’m pretty happy in Halifax so I always wanted to come back."

Not surprisingly, Knotek has been the best forward at camp so far by a wide margin. He has been able to score virtually at will during the intrasquad games and has been regularly setting up his linemates for easy finishes. But Knotek shrugged off the early showings, saying it doesn’t mean a whole lot for a veteran to be tearing it up against a bunch of rookies.

"The first (few) days is just August hockey; it’s not really hockey," Knotek kidded. "There were 59 guys here (to start) and half of them I don’t even know. That’s just the way it is at the start of every camp."

Tastes like Gold

Tidbits of news abound but damn it is hot out there...and I don't want to be in here blogging about hockey. Let's get to it.

Mo' Gold
Canada's Under 18 team won gold at the Tournament of Ivan Hlinka in the Czech Republic by defeating the Russians 9-2. Louis Boileau-Domingue of the Moncton Wildcats was in nets and stopped 20 of 22 shots put his way. Brandon Gormley of the Wildcats had the opening goasl of both the first and second periods while Sean Couturier ( Drummondville) had a hand in Gormley's first goal. Congrats to the Q boys (including Michaël Bournival) on getting that gold. No, there is no chocolate inside.

Ned

Deadly Nedly is apparenly not feeling so deadly. The 19 year old winger has decided that he will not be reporting to Mooseheads training camp this week, opting instead to enroll in University at UNB and begin his 'regular boy' life. The news was first revealed on the Mooseheads twitter feed and later elaborated upon by Matthew Wuest at the Metro. The Metro couldn't have posted a more unflattering picture of Mr O'Brien. He actually does look a little undead there. Good luck to Undeadly Nedly in all of his future endeavors. Let's hope he learns how to make slightly less unfortunate life choices. I mean, Nickelback is his favorite band...the boy clearly needs help.

Oh GOD!
Training camp starts this week: Wednesday Aug 19th at Cole Harbour Place. We shall be together soon enough my darling Jessyko. I expect nothing but the fanciest shoes from you this year...or better yet, no fancy shoes. Fancy shoes means you are walking the concourse injured, and we can't have that. It is for your own safety. This is because I stalk around the concourse when I'm drunk.

Everybody is going Wild
Tomas Knotek has also been invited to join the Wild for the Traverse City prospects tournament. He will be joining Bryce Swan and Michael Kirkpatrick. The Wild love Cape Breton. Tomas will be wishing that he was from North Syndey in order to increase his chances with the Wild, and then he will realize that this was the sadest thought he has ever had. He may then contemplate suicide. Let's hope that being surrounded by so many Capers does not bring him down. The Moose need scoring this season.

Monday updates: Tommy can you hear me

The QMJHL players of the week have been announced. The offensive player of the week is...oh just guess. His initials are Y.R. he plays for Drummondville, he wins this award every week. The defensive player of the week is a small troll like goalie with douchey facial hair who makes fun of one of my favorite Moose. Whatever. Who cares?

What does matter is that Tomas Knotek was nominated for offensive player of the week. In four games he had 2 goals and 5 assists. Also, he looks like he was made by melding a bunch of elves together and placing them into a boy mold. He is totally spriggin'.

Sportsnet Hot/Not:
Hot team: Rimouski Oceanic
Hot player: Yannick Riendeau (yawn)
Cold player: Mikhael Stefanovich
Cold team: Victoriaville Tigre - Playing in a division with two elite teams and missing their starting goaltender, Kevin Poulin, due to injury did little to stop the bleeding in Victoriaville. The Tigres lost all three games last week, including a shootout loss to the league's worst team, the Halifax Mooseheads. Victoriaville has not won since Jan. 31 as their losing streak sits at seven games.

Ha Ha - they lost to the Moose...ohhhhhh wait *pout*, my team is the still the worst in the league. Let's remedy that OK!

Cue Rocky theme song... with disco beats

OMG. You are such a big studly winner. KO in the final round. Did I call you big? Have I given you your championship belt yet? Did I remind you that you were Studly? Were you planning on studding with anyone? No really, I totally meant it when I said that you were studly; even with Bernard, Boland, Pelletier and MacDonald out of the lineup and Corbeil riding the pine like a pine riding cowboy...still, totally studly!!!

The Halifax Mooseheads have defeated the Victoriaville Tigre 5-4 in the shootout. The Moose had a dull first period which finished off with them down by two. They rallied back in the second to get three unanswered goals and chase Mastropietro from nets. Victoriaville tied it up within the first minute of the third on a power play goal. Tomas Knotek had some lovely chances and when he finally did make a shot at the net, instead of passing, he brought the Moose back into the lead with five minutes remaining. Unfortunately Victoriaville, with their goalie on the bench, forced overtime when they slipped one past Yetman with only 45 seconds remaining on the clock.

Goal summary
(I think...I may have messed up the details):

1st
1) Victoriaville - Tulupov (from Nestrasil and Hinse). This goal should be credited to our own Scott McDonald. It was going wide until he deflected it into the Moose net with his own stick.
2) Victoriaville - Bonneau (from Hynes and MacIssac) a two on one rush???

2nd
3) Halifax - Gerrad Grant. A low shot from the slot that went between the legs of Mastropietro.
4) Halifax PP - Knotek (from Stransky and Amyot)
5) Halifax PP - Cheremetiev (from Randell and MacAskill). A one timer from the low circle.

3rd
6) Victoriaville PP - Tanguay (from Earle and Chouinard). A power play rebound goal from close to the net which went just over the pad???
7) Halifax - Knotek (from Stransky and Bona). I was in the kitchen...had given up on life, began scavenging for comfort food.
8) Victoriaville - Labonte ( from Tanguay and Robichaud). 6 on 5.

The Moose ended regulation in a tie despite winning less faceoffs, laying less hits, having fewer power plays, and less shots overall - only 22 shots (~8 dangerous) compared to the Tigres 38 (~20 dangerous).

Items of note:
  • Bona's shot blocking was beautiful again. He even took a shot to the leg, hobbled around a bit and was back on the ice shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, to offset his defensive play, Bona sometimes has a tendency to try to carry the puck too deep into the offensive zone from time to time, and if it gets nabbed, the Moose end up weak on the back end. I only mention it because it happened again today.
  • O'Connor was the strong silent type. Totally studly!!!
  • Penalties went to Bety, Bahm, Pender and Piette. Once again it was Piette's penalty on the forecheck that led to a power play goal for the opposition. Was he benched for the early part of the third... because I did not see him again until the end of the game. I am also not so fond of his backwards passing. It looks nice but this team is not a fancy team... when they try fancy things it rarely works.
  • Grant can bop and weave around the opposition like this is a dance party, which it is...
Just Dance
  • Knotek had two goals, and five shots on net, but he could possibly have had more. He is too fond of passing when on the break-away or an odd man rush. Did you hear that every other goalie in the league - I SAID TOMAS PASSES ON THE TWO ON ONE RUSH. There...*whispers* now it is safe to shoot.
  • Just in case you did not notice, 7 D were dressed tonight. Pender was playing forward.
  • Dunn was playing. I heard John Moore say his name...once.

Shoot out:
Yetman stopped both Nestrasil and Tanguay. Boivin was able to stop Tomas Knotek but both Stransky and Cheremetiev were able to slip one past him.

Game Stars:
  1. VIC - Labonté, Alexandre
  2. HAL - Knotek, Tomas
  3. VIC - Bonneau, Jonathan

*All these guys want in a band...except maybe Yeti, but he is there because the picture dictates it. Gerrad Grant gets to wear the cape because he is has the body of a model and capes are the hot new accessory for spring 2009. That does not explain why he looks like a girl, however. Gerrad also gets to wear the cape because I totally called dibs on the orange dress.

You collapsed....just like my banana bread

It was all uncooked in the center. I mean, if this is how I do banana bread, then can you really trust my cookies? I think Paul Byron ruined my banana bread.

Mark Yetman starts in nets for the Moose, Marc-Antoine Gelli-donuts is in nets for the Olympiques. Matt Boland has recovered from a shoulder injury so he's back in the line-up; while Alex MacDonald, Ned O'Brien, George Dunn and Guillaume Pelletier (knee) are out for the Moose.

Desjardins, the young rookie forward who has gotten first line ice time with Knotek and Stransky is off the line....despite the fact that there was just a big news story published only 3 days ago about how he played hard to get on that line. As usual this line pairing goes the way of all line pairings in Mooseland. Gerrad Grant has now moved up to play with Knotek and Stransky. Sluttiest line in the CHL.

1st:
In only 31 seconds Jan Stransky gets the Moose on the board with the very first shot of the game. I was not paying attention.

The Moose get a power play but can't get the puck out of their own zone. Pender tried to make a pass to his defensive partner but Paul Byron intercepted to get a 2 on 0 breakaway. Yetman made the most beautiful glove save to shut him down. Why does this all seem so familiar?

How can I learn to hate Yetman if he plays well? I want to be like everyone else and hate him in a bad way!

Louis-XVI took on Ouellet in a feisty scrap and basically nailed him. The removal of his helmet revealed just how luxurious Louis-XVI's hair has become.

2nd:

Moose are up 1-0 going into the second. I missed half of the second because I got so excited by the first period that I started baking.... as any good girlfriend would. I got back just in time to see Gatineau get their first goal, by Touchette, on a rebound shot.

Pender had a breakaway but the tiniest little Olympique player (I will call him TugBoat) just moved Pender off of his shot and towards the boards.

Knotek and Stransky had a breakaway…but instead of shooting Knotek tried to pass. It hit Delisle’s skate. Knotek only had one shot all game. He must have developed a fear of shooting.

Gerrad Grant gets a goal on the wraparound by shooting it low into the corner. Assists were by Knotek and McDonald. This is his 9th of the season.

Knotek is doing weird things. He was carrying it down the center and he passed it to Stransky who was covered by two guys and skating down into the 'piques zone along the boards. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Bahm makes a huge hit which results in some Olympique retaliation. In the end Bety ends up fighting Domingues…and Bety ends up getting killed.

Bona got hit in the face with a stick which resulted in a Moosehead power play – Jan Stransky gets his second goal of the night- his 19th of the year, after Knotek passed to Stransky across the slot and he one timed it. Amyot gets the other assist.

At some point Gelli-donuts was replaced by a Chubbeh bunneh in nets.

3rd

Touchette heads to the Mose net a 2 on 1, but Yetman gets a piece of the high glove side shot. Ben was the defenceman covering it but he was not on Touchette, he was covering the other guy, or an invisible guy, or his own shadow....not sure.

Shortly after that Byron gets around Bona and makes another shot on net which Yetman saves, but he is unable to stop the rebound shot by Chabot. Current score Moose 3: Piques 2.

Penalty called on Stransky. I have got to say, the Moose have been disciplined tonight. We are into the third period and are only now seeing our second penalty kill. I would hate to see them fuck it up now.

The PK was VERY SCARY (Scarier than the Friday the 13thmovie I watched after the game... I am more a fan of the Halloween series). Yetman went down after a shot. He has been down a lot, throwing his body over the puck. The 'piques were not able to opportunize and eventually the Moose got it and carried it out of the zone.

After lots of pressure in the Moose zone Bernard carries it down ice but Piette ends up getting a delayed penalty on a hook in the Gatineau zone. O’Connor and Bona gave Goulet a bit too much room and he made it past them but luckily Yetman, who was well out of his crease, made the save. Bah - too hot.

Unfortunately the defence are slow to clear the puck and Goulet ties it on a PP goal in a shot from the slot. Tied 3:3

Fuuuuuck Pender (look at me, I am my seat neighbours). At the blue line Pender fumbles on the pass from McDonald - Byron steals it, makes a breakaway, and goes high on Yetman to get a goal.

aaaand that is it. Moose lose 4:3

  • Paul Byron is the bain of my existance.
  • Knotek played funny but still got 3 assists and was a killer at the faceoff.
  • Pender is sleeping on the doorstep tonight. If he is hungry he can go next door to the pizza place and maybe find some old crusts in the garbage.
  • Piette will be helping him scavenge for old pizza crusts because of his stupid penalty.
  • Yetman allowed 4 in 32 for a 0.875 sv% but still played well and made some huge saves. If it were not for him it could have been worse - like Drummondville vs Cape Breton worse.
  • So while the Moose did not get a point tonight, neither did Val D'Or or Lewiston.
  • WTF banana bread? You were in the oven for an hour! I did the stick test, there was no goo! You were crusty on top! Am I a bad baker? Where did we go wrong?

The three stars are :
  1. GAT - Byron, Paul
  2. GAT - Chabot, Jean-Philip
  3. HAL - Stransky, Jan

I'm sorry

I should not have taken it out on you. You know how I get when you lose a game you should have won, I have been drinking, and I have been denied my Fullerton. Did I mention that I was drinking?

I didn't really watch the game. I am, therefore, not in a position to judge except to say that losing 6-2 against a team like the Foreurs is totally unacceptable. Is it lonely down there in the basement? The other 5 bottom dwellers all got points last night. Val d'Or got 2, Lewiston got 2, Bathurst got 2 and, Baie Comeau and Chicoutimi went into shootout with the BC Drakkar walking away with 2 points. This does not bode well for you my sweet ungulates.

I am just going to check the newspaper now to see if Cam says you battled hard but did not get the lucky bounces. Wait a sec... nope! Willy Palov's article says nothing.

I just wanted to let you know that it is not about lucky bounces. It is about being in the right place at the right time. You can't blame all of your failures on 'lucky bounces' for the other team. In truth, the 'lucky bounce' is a rare thing... and it actually involves some puck bouncing stuff. Remember the time we were playing Saint John and the puck bounced over Amyot's stick, over Mayer's stick and landed right near a Moosehead who was facing an open net, who then did not fan on the shot - that is a lucky bounce combined with right place/right time stuff AND net hitting skillz.

About last night:

  • Mark Yetman got the start but was pulled before the start of the second period for having allowed 3 goals on 10 shots**. Yetman gets the loss.
  • Mathieu Corbeil played the second and third periods allowing 3 goals on 27 shots.
  • Raffaele D'Orso allowed 2 goals on 35 shots and had an assist. Oh la la. See ladies - there are benefits to playing the puck.

Moose were 0 for 6 on the PP, while the Foreurs were 2 for 5. Our special teams need to smarten up. They were doing OK for a while there but in recent games have gone completely kaboomy. Mooseheads have the worst power play in the league with a 14.2% efficiency. They have also allowed 11 short handed goals this season. Sad really!

Tomas Knotek got both of the Moosehead goals with assists by Jessyko Bernard *hugs*, Justin Pender (same old tip in of a Pender shot from the blue line- welcome back), and Ben MacAskill. At some point, in what little game I did watch, I heard John Moore cooing over Charles Bety. Good for Bety, now he can start a bromance with our radio announcer.

The good:
  • Piette is still coming out on top in the faceoffs, winning 13 of 23.
  • Jessyko was throwing his weight around. 3 hits.
  • Eric Louis-XVI was able to play.
  • Pender returns.
  • Knotek, because 2 goals is never bad.
  • pictures

The bad/the ugly:
  • Mark Yetman. I don't know what those shots looked like but the numbers are ugly.
  • Eric Louis-XVI was there in name only.
  • Giving the Foreurs 5 power plays.
  • Kevie (stars- oh hooray), Frankie (don't poke my goalie in the face) and Rafie combining for 4 assists + a goal by "les sourcils" Sauve. I love them but technically they are the enemy.

I still can not decide if anymoose deserves cookies.

The Future:

Tonight the Moose play the Rouyn Noranda Huskies, the only team in the league with a zombie on their roster. Yeah, you heard me right!

What! You didn't know that Brad Yetman was a zombie? He totally is! He was bitten by a zombie on Dec 29 2008 and had transformed into a full fledged zombie by January 16th. Shawinigan knew that he had the zombie virus. Being a top tier team they feared some sort of punishment from the CHL come playoff time, especially considering that they are good enough to be Memorial cup contenders this year. So they went ahead and traded him on Jan 9th to an unsuspecting Rouyn-Noranda, just days before 'the rage' kicked in full force.

So there you have it: Rouyn Noranda 53 points, 22 ahead of the Moose, and up by one zombie.

Our 'pet the Yeti'* says he does not want to allow defensive defencezombie Yetman to get a goal against him. Given the outcome of last night's game I wonder if the two Yetmans will even be given a chance to battle (HA) it out. I, for one, want Brad to get a goal. It will be a league milestone. First goal ever scored by a zombie in the CHL.

*as opposed to, oh say, 'fear the Yeti'. Nobody fears Mark Yetman.
** I had originally said 3 in 9... cuz the Q game page is inconsistent between its goalie stats in the team section and its shot stats at the bottom of the page.
edit - i watched a bit of the first from the archives. Honestly how many sticks and pucks did the moose take to the face?

Two in a Row.

Yep. You read that right - two in a row. The Mooseheads had their first back-to-back wins this season with a 4-3 SO win against Chicoutimi followed by tonight's 6-2 slaughtering of the Bathurst Titan.

Despite reports to the contrary, Jessyko Bernard was still out of the lineup with a groin injury, and Pender still has wonky hips like an old arthritic dog. New defenceman George Dunn was a healthy scratch, and Pelletier is still...somewhere??... MIA.

Yetman got the start, chosen over a mildly injured Corbeil, who we would all like to be fully healed before he steps back between the pipes, because fucking around and letting injured goalies play is stupid. Prolonging an injury is not hot.

Either that or there is a grand conspiracy being plotted against Corbeil, which involves lies being fed to the media, but I highly doubt it. When Yetman gets a start tomorrow against the Moncton Wildcats it will add further fuel to the fire. Why don't we just burn a fucking effigy already people? God, you have no idea how to hate properly!!! If it helps - look - we can pretend Corbeil played.

Ummmmm, no. Yetman was playing. Goals allowed was 2, shots were 35. WTF?

I had so much to say but I lost it. I forget everything and I was not even drinking. I feel so lazy and it is so late. Which is why I am referring you to Matthew Wuest's write up in the Metro.

At some point I remember thinking oh dear God Graham you look so good you can eat your cookies off the small of my back. Bona had a bajillion hits, a sexy fight, and two assists. The boys killed 5 of 5 penalties. Bona was just calmly playing like "No, I don't think so! yoink!" and so for that he gets the cookies. Also, because I am biased towards defencemen.

Desjardins was delightful in his interview: the kicky strong French accent, the wholehearted head-back laugh, the singing (in French) and the tongue thing (it must be some neurotic twitch).

I must also say Louis -XVI is trying really hard to be an upper tier boyfriend, and it is working because he is looking hotter with each successive game. Bahm is also buttering me up more lately. I remember thinking at the game today that I was pregnant with a whole litter of his puppies.

...and of course the Euros - they were highly amusing. Even Yuri was amusing me and he never amuses me (sorry, it's true). Stransky (2 goals) , Knotek (2 assists) and Cheremetiev (2 goals, 1 assist) were dominating the Titan.

Yetman was solid when Piette was not stealing his stick (no cookies for Alexis). He stopped 33 of 35 shots (when he did have his stick), a whole whack of which were dangerous.

So to summarise:
Cheremetiev: 2G, 1A, 2nd star
Stransky: 2G, 1st star
Knotek: 2A, 3rd star
Bona: 2A and a fight
Amyot (listed as Matheson): 2A
Bahm: 1G
Grant: 1G
McDonald:1A
MacDonald: 1A
Randell: 1A
Bety: 1A
MacAskill: 1A

Nothing on the QMJHL site right now seems right. The faceoff stats look whack, so I am not going to believe anything else it says... but you can trust me when I say the Moose did indeed win 6-2.

Happy boys are productive boys.

Someone looks good in red...

...but I am still waiting to get him permanently into a Devils Jersey. Me-fuckin'-ow.

Patrice Cormier rocking the red (photo courtesy of IIHF)

Check out the IIHF photogallery. Ohh look... it is Tomas Knotek with the Czechs. Why is it important to go right to the IIHF page? Well, there are more Q players playing for foreign teams than there are Q boys playing for Canada, and those boys are important too. So if you need to keep track of Kulikov (Russia), Stich, Knotek, Piskacek (Czech), Reul and Pielmeier (Germany) etc etc etc - then the IIHF stats webpage is the place to be.

FYI Knotek has 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 games. Put him in a different jersey and he still looks like some sort of small, icy, mythical woodland creature... except he as gotten more goals in his last 4 games with the Czechs than he did in his last 4 games with the Moose. Let's hope he comes home swingin'.

Quickies

Cam says the team played well in PEI. In fact he said it twice. Did I ever tell you that I hate being lied to. REALLY HATE IT.

Let's pick apart what was reported in the Metro and the Chronicle Herald:

Cam -“You know what? I think that was one of our better games of the season,”

me - Better than that game against Moncton?

Cam - “We played hard, killed a lot of penalties and didn’t allow a lot of scoring chances or a lot of shots.”

me - We killed 4 of 6...that is a 0.66%. STATISTICALLY THAT IS NOT GOOD. The Moose allowed 20 shots, but of those, 13 were considered dangerous.

Cam - "We controlled the puck well, we had good scoring chances and our power play looked good. But there were just a lot of chances we couldn’t finish on and we had some untimely turnovers that cost us."

me - dude, we only had 6 dangerous shots. Six. Six dollars can not buy me two lattes at Starbucks. Six is not a lot. I hope you do not help your kids with their math homework. Sure we had lots of shots from near the blueline or from funny angles but those are not considered good scoring chances.

Pffffff. I wish he would say something negative for a change. I want to be the only one throwing kisses all over my Moose...and even I am negative from time to time because I know a dud when I see it.

Ok I am done pissing on Russell. On to sweeter things.

Eric Louis-Seize
and Yetman will be out for Saturday's game against the Moncton Wildcats. Louis-Seize has injured his shoulder in an attempt to imitate my abominable shortbread. Our abominable netminder is still feeling sore in his boy-bits region. Stupid adductor muscles.

Logan MacMillan may be moving back up to play wing on the first line.

From the Mooseheads website:
  • Tomas Knotek is the Mooseheads Player Award Winner for the month of November.
The 18-year-old native of Kladno, Czech Republic, Mooseheads’ first round pick in the 2007 CHL Import Draft, recorded points in nine of Halifax’s 13 games during the month, including five multiple-point games, registering eight goals and nine assists during the month to move into the top spot on the Mooseheads’ scoring list with 23 points, including a team leading 11 goals.
  • Rookie Goalie Mathieu Corbeil was the Academic player of the month. This is really not Ben MacAskill's month. He had no points all month, ended up a -9 in those 12 games, and now someone stole his smarty-pants award.
  • Some of the boys did volunteering at the IWK...now with pictures.

Topsy turvy/ I feel pride

Last night the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Moncton Wildcats in the shootout for a final score of 2-1. Yep you read that right. Going into last night's game the Moose were the second worst team in the league, the Cats were the second best...and yet ka-pow, a win.

I am glad they put Pender in the shootout and was not surprised that he got the goal. Fear on the part of the opposing goaltender alone should be enough get him the goal. No one wants to be hit by a puck coming off that slapshot.

No matter how much I currently hate to say this: props to Yetman for a 32 save performance, winning the 1st star, and his supposed "glove hand of larceny". I am also handing out props to Knotek for the goal in regulation and the shootout, as well as props to Charles Bety for the game winner in the shootout.

I missed most of the game, because it turns out I actually do have a life, and so I can't really comment on the game. I just hope the boys are feeling good about their win and can use the win and its momentum to blow the Titan out of the water on Sunday.

According to Willy Palov's article in today's issue of the Chronicle Herald:

The Mooseheads (9-18-1-1) went into the game as huge underdogs against the second-overall Wildcats (20-2-2-2). But thanks to some stellar goaltending from Mark Yetman and long stretches of mistake-free hockey, they managed to secure the unexpected win.

Yetman made 32 saves during 65 minutes of intense action and then stoned all but two of Moncton’s seven shooters in the showdown. Charles Bety notched the winner in the shootout on Halifax’s seventh shot.

"Mark was real solid," Russell said. "He didn’t get a lot of action in the first (period); I think they only had three shots on net. It’s tough for the goalie to stay involved when it’s like that but he stayed focused and was good all night.

"And he made a couple of big saves in the shootout, too."

Updates: Better late than never

The QMJHL has announced its offensive and defensive players of the week . After weeks of being in the running our Bavarian Liebe Timo Pielmeier has finally won the prize. New jersey, same pretty face, same mad skillz.
The Cataractes’ goaltender was stellar in two road wins versus the Montreal Juniors and the Quebec Remparts, posting a 1.00 goals-against-average and .960 save percentage. The German native, a third round draft pick in 2007 (San Jose), is second in the QMJHL in goals-against-average at 2.09 and tied for second in wins with 12. Shawinigan has won twelve straight, one short of the franchise record.
Ich spreche kein Deutsch my dearest Timo, but I still liebe you. Montreal goalie Jake Allen, and defencemen Jordan Southorn (PEI) and Marc-Andre Bourdon (Rouyn-Noranda) were also in the running.

On the offensive end, the Mooseheads own Tomas Knotek was nominated (3G, 3A, +2 in 2 games), but prizes were instead awarded to Yannick Riendeau of the Drummondville Voltigeurs for his 5 goals, 2 assists and +4 rating.

In Sea Dogs News:
The Dogs have released free-agent forwards Andrew Howes and Kyle Paige. I bet they (JB) are regretting giving up Francois Gauthier now. Silly bunts. Francois has 11 points since joining the Foreurs, 5 goals and 6 assists in 11 games. Paige has 1 goal and 2 assists in 11 games since the Sea Dogs chose him to replace Gauthier...because he is taller. I want to flick JB in the middle of his forehead. If I stand on Francois' shoulders together we might be able to reach.

18 Year old rookie Andrew Howes, despite lighting it up in the pre-season, had only 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 regular season games, and was a -3. Poor baby Howes.

What I don't get is the lackadaisical treatment of Matthew Stoddard. 18 year old Stoddard has played in 20 games but only has one goal, and is a -9. Stoddard's only advantage is his face offs win %, which stands around 56%. My Conclusion - the Sea Dogs are Fucked up.

Getting to know my team: the Chad Earle edition

Bad girls get no hockey. Nope...no hockey. None. No Whitey, no Fullerton, no Yetmen, no Clermont - NOTHING. She just sits on her sofa being bitter and eating "turtles" cookies. mmmm self loathing. The problem here is she cannot figure out what she did wrong to be abandoned and thus deprived of hockey.

The Mooseheads faced off against the Gatineau Olympiques and won by a score of 4-2 .

Chad Earle is nice. I demand you be kind to him. He is the Moose brass's attempt at a Whitey replacement: blonde - check, St. John's native - check, zombie like - check, shifty eyed - check. Today he was also very hard working, especially through the first two periods.

Kiss Chad Earle...KISS HIM!!!
