gone dark

Yeah, sorry about that. At first I swore I would not blog until I had dealt with pressing real-life issues. Those were dealt with by last Wednesday so I really have no excuse for not blogging about the last two games in a timely manner. Needless to say, not having to write anything for a whole week was like a dreamy dream. Fuck the English language.

So, I guess I should get to it.

Mooseheads vs Montreal Jr (Moose lose 4-1)
Well, the first period was exciting. When the team allowed 4 goals in the second period I gave up on life. Sitting through the third period just felt like torture because of the sense of complete helplessness. It must be how my cat feels when I force her to cuddle me. I never want to experience that again. Can you do that for me my sweet, darling mooselets?

Cookies to Grant for the only goal in what felt like the longest stretch of goallessness in the history of hockey.  Cookies are for eating, not for hiding in your underware.

Mooseheads vs Screagles (Moose lose 2-0)
Despite the fact that the team were shutout, this game was decidedly less painful. Games against the Screagles are always delightful and scrappy...even when there is no actual scrapping. Cookies are to be shared between Bety and Bernard for coming out in this game with full force, and new goalie Delmas for decreasing my sense of hopelessness with his >0.9% sv%. There is a chance for you yet Delmas, but remember: cookies are for eating, not for hiding down your pants.

PS J.Bernard. We are soooo back on. I was going to give you a choice about it but then I realized we never talked...so how could you let me know? You can't!!! I have made an executive decision for us. If I catch you sexy dancing for Alex MacDonald I will rip his mullet weave out...unless, of course, I can have you both.

Mooseheads vs Wildcats (Moose lose 3-0)
In a homage to the loss of Baby LBD I did not pay attention to this game. How dare LBD leave me to go to Quebec? The only benefit of this move was our acquisition of Delmas...Oh, and the fact that LBD gets to work with Roy. I just don't think he was taking my feeling into consideration. ...and to think that I cooed for his wearing of white belts and shoes (yes, gentle readers, he goes all Frenchy style on us too).

Twenty-five shots on goal and yet, nothing. I blame Nicola Riopel. He probably shouldn't be in this league.

Cookies go to me because I have a tendency to drown my sorrows in food.

Mooseheads vs Sagueneens (Moose win 5-1)
Ah now that is more like it. Randall's one timer was a thing of pure beauty. Who knew that anybody on this team could 'one-time' it. Sometimes, as a group of intelligent, deep thinking and gentle boys, my moosies spend far too much time coddling the puck with their stick and contemplating their next move. Pucks are for shooting, not for coddling... and definitely not for putting down your pants in an attempt to look like you have a bigger schlong.

Pucks were getting all up in the Sags' net. The Mooseheads had 5 goals (Randell, Bernard, Gelinas, MacDonald and Andrews) in 40 shots and boys were driving the net to get those rebounds.  Amazeballs. Why can't they do this every night?

It's as easy as that!

With the Sags came a return to winning and the second coming of Alexis Piette (the first, of course, being his visit with the Lewiston Maineiacs before being traded to the Sags at X-mas). At some point Alexis played an excellent game of keep-away, scooting around the entire perimeter of our zone with the puck, and at that moment I desperately wanted him back. It's not just for the eyebrows.

Cookies go to MacDonald and Bernard. MacDonald had his first goal as a Moosehead, which is always something to be celebrated with abundant overeating and a few beer. Of course I am terribly selfish and I demand more goals. Immediately if possible. Yes Jessyko, cookies are for storing in your pants but only if I can...

Mooseheads vs Voltigeurs (Moose win 2-1)
Bitches. The Volts stole Delmas' shutout with just over 3 minutes left in the game. Peter Delmas stopped 35 shots on his way to a win over the league powerhouse Drummondville Voltigeurs (33-13-0-2). It was brilliant.

Abeltshauser (big slapshot from the point) and Amyot both got their goals on the powerplay. Knotek, Bernard, Gelinas and Andrews had assists.

Jake Allen was in nets for the Volts, playing what was his 3rd game in  a row. Why they felt the need to play him against one of the worst teams in the league is beyond me? I was tempted to throw Allan off his game by holding up a big sign that just said "SILVER" on it, but I had no bristle board and I had not thought of this in advance of the game. It turns out that it was not necessary to be so mean and the Mooseheads could defeat the Volts without my help.

To say that the final three minutes was stressful is an understatement. The Moose had lost their 2 goal cushion and spent the last minute playing 6-4 after taking a penalty for too many men on the ice. The defensive effort was staggering and I was desperately hoping one of the boys could thoroughly crush the Volts' spirits with an empty net goal but everyone knows that empty net goals are really not part of the Mooseheads' skill set.

Dear Peter Delmas,
Congratulations on your QMJHL defensive player of the week award. In two games you recorded two wins and had a 1.0 GAA and a 0.964 sv%.  I would lick cookie crumbs off your taint for that. Please, don't tell your mother I offered... and for God's* sake don't tell my mother either. What do you mean, you don't read my blog? You should get on that boy!

I should probably...

The world hates me.

The Mooseheads will be offering a limited edition Sawyer Hannay poster at the Dec 27 game against the Moncton Wildcats. I will not be at that game.

Stupid Christmas! Stupid Mooseheads! Why do they want to keep Sawyer and I apart? Why don't they want me to have a Hannay poster that I can cut the face off of and glue to a teddy bear that I can then take to bed with me every night.

Ok wait. That is sick. So I am no longer a teenage girl but I have just given you a brief glimpse into the mind of a teenage girl and I am sure it scared the shit out of you. Yet I still  want a Hannay poster to add to the pile. You know the pile. It is the place in the closet where you stuff all of that Mooseheads shit you have gathered over the years. Ahhhh the pile.

...and ahhh Hannay. Who can resist that face?

My X-mas wish? My very own Hannay. I'm not entirely sure what I would do with it but I know that it would get three meals a day, dress properly, and keep it's boy bits away from scrags.

The December 27 game may also mark the return of Alex MacDonald - in a Wildcats uniform. Alex was traded to his hometown Moncton Wildcats in exchange for a 12th round pick. Alex was originally a 7th round pick. I still have this feeling that the whole MacDonald /Dimitruk swap was a scam...and to give them MacDonald for a 12th round pick. puhhhhhlease. The Moncton Newspapers are reporting that 18 year old MacDonald may be the #5 D on Moncton
Moncton also acquired defenceman Alex MacDonald, 18, from the Halifax Mooseheads in exchange for a 12th round pick in the 2010 QMJHL draft. The Moncton native is 6-foot-4, 185 pounds and he has 54 games of QMJHL experience. He began this season in the QMJHL, but the Mooseheads then re-assigned him to the Dieppe Commandos of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
The Wildcats have the best defence corps in the league with a top four group of David Savard, Mark Barberio, Simon Jodoin and Brandon Gormley. They may keep eight defencemen with MacDonald and rookies Dillon Donnelly, Patrick Downe and Mitchell Fraser.
The Wildcats don't have a clear-cut No. 5 defenceman at this point. MacDonald could slip into that role given that he has an experience edge on Donnelly, Downe and Fraser.
"I thought Alex MacDonald was very solid in Halifax last season," said Flynn. "He'll bring some experience and depth to our lineup. He'll get a chance to come in here and compete for some minutes."

Why was MacDonald treated like a second class citizen by the Moose?  The only benefit I see is that I may now have a second Wildcats boyfriend. LBD was probably feeling a little suffocated by such targeted theoretical love. You gotta spread that stuff around. No Louis, you may not leave Moncton. I forbid it.

Former Moosehead Alexis Piette was traded from the Lewiston Maineiacs to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. In less than two years he has been with three teams. Damn, that has really got to be hard on a kid.  Alex really gave the impression that Lewiston was not his favorite place. At least now that he is back in Quebec he can drown all of his sorrows in a bottle. That is how I do.

As for current Mooseheads that are not named Sawyer Hannay:
Mathieu Corbeil is the Mooseheads QMJHL Academic player for the Month of December.
"Matt already is showing signs of wisdom and dependability. His insight and his desire to learn make him a real winner."

...and according to the Mooseheads twitter feed Brent Andrews was given an A for team Atlantic in the 16 and under tournament.

When looking good gets you somewhere

The Moose faced the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at the Metro Centre and lost in the shootout by a score of 4-3...but even though they lost it was hard hitting, energetic, edge of your seat hockey for the full 60 + + + minutes.

The team were wearing retro red Nova Scotia Voyageurs (Montreal's old AHL farm team) jerseys from the 70s, which you can see in the game photos here. The jerseys will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to benefit the purchase of new equipment for the IWK children's hospital. In keeping with the 1970's theme they brought back the organist and the old mascot. The atmosphere was electric.

Goals:
  1. The Eagles opened up scoring only 5 minutes into the game with an unassisted marker by Joey Haddad. I felt angry because Joey Haddad has that effect on me.
  2. Alexis Piette got the first goal for the Moose later in the first period on a pass from MacAskill who came out from behind the CB net.
  3. I had moved down from the upper bowl to some lovely center ice seats in the "sold out" lower bowl for the second period. This was ideal because I needed that view of the next goal.
  4. Early in the second Piette was on a rush into the Eagles zone. He had already had a number of shots on net... many low along the ice and lead-handed, and I thought "oh no he will never score". As he was driving in from the side he did a spin-o-rama and backhanded to Cheremetiev who then went top shelf on the short side for the power play goal. It was at that moment I decided that a little fling with fancy plays may be to my benefit. It was an enjoyable, albeit shallow affair.
  5. The Eagles tied the game less than 2 minutes into the third. It sucked. The Moose had been working soooo hard and the Eagles get a fluke goal when the puck bounced off of an Eagle Player and into the net. Credit goes to Piskacek with an assist by MacDougall.
  6. The Eagles then pulled into the lead on a slutty 5-hole goal. MacNeil was in front of the net but in video review he appears to have been out of the way by the time Piskacek's shot got to the net.
  7. Travis Randell tied it up for the Moose by being appropriately parked in front of the net to receive the rebound on MacAskill's shot.
  8. The game went into OT...then shootout. Mark Yetman allowed the 4th shot by Horyl to get past him. Olivier Roy stopped all four shooters and is currently 14 for 14 in the shootout...the best in the league.
Other notes:
  • Gabriel Desjardins cannot keep his tongue in his mouth. I wonder if he realizes the effect this has on the opposite sex? He should put his tongue away before he is gang raped by a roving troop of 14 year old girls.
  • Bernard landed a huge hit on an Eagle player in the offensive corner. It was nice to see him getting his shoulders some much needed violent physiotherapy. I also think he may have gotten a haircut.
  • Louis-XVI took a shot to the leg and waddled off in pain.He did return.
  • MacAskill got in a fight with MacDougall. He lost. I presume this is because MacAskill is a lover not a fighter... and he is ever so gentle with small animals.
  • Why did Bona and Slaney each get 5 for fighting when no fight actually took place? Hugging - yes, verbal exchange of sweet nothings - possibly, copping a feel - I hope so, but fighting - NO.
  • As a result of shenanigans, at one point, 3 defencemen were in the box: MacAskill, Amyot and Bona. I was terrified and waiting for a meltdown that never happened.
  • Our PK is just getting better and better...holding CB to 0/3.
  • O'Connor had three shots on net. Like actually at the net...not at the signs to the side of the net. A goalie had to stand between him and the twine. O'Connor is due. I am totally rooting for him.
  • Yetman made some killer saves. I like 'springtime' Yeti a lot. I don't know what gets into him when spring hits...but whatever it is, it does crazy things to a goalie fetishist. We get ourselves into awkward situations this time of year. You smell it too right? 37 saves on 40 shots.
  • I never would have put Piette in on the shootout. My impression of him is that he is a better garbage goal kinda guy than fancy goal kinda guy, despite tonight and his best impression of Brian 'Soupy' Campbell. Baby Gabe would be my shootout man.
  • Randell was sporting some elaborate new facial hair. I presume he grew that overnight and sculpted it 5 minutes before the game. By now he probably has a full beard...unlike Piette's moustache which is going nowhere slow. I think he must have given up on that dream.

Three games 3 stars were:
  1. HAL - Piette, Alexis
  2. HAL - Yetman, Mark
  3. CAP - Haddad, Joey

The Poll is always right

First off - Let's just salute tonight with a song

The Halifax Mooseheads defeated the PEI Rocket by a score of 4-2. Sitting out for the Moose were Guillaume Pelletier (of course), Matt Boland ( a bird landed on his shoulder thus injuring it?), McDonald and MacDonald (way to feature him in a story and then let him sit).

I don't know if I didn't notice the PEI Rocket because they actually failed to show up and play or if I just didn't notice them because I was blind in one eye.

PEI goaltender Bobby Nadeau allowed 2 goals in his first 4 shots. Dearest Bobby, tell me where it hurts and I'll kiss it better. Nadeau ended the night with 34 saves on 37 shots (or 36 on 39 depending on where you look for stats on the Q-site)

Mooseheads goaltender Mark Yetman made some of the most fantastic saves when the Moose were trying to hold it down in the third period. A glove save while diving forward? uggg. Dearest Yetman, tell me where it doesn't hurt and I'll kiss it better anyway. Yetman stopped 29 of 31.

I will try to do this in order of appearance (warning, bad curse words within):

Cheremetiev's goal was divine. The first of the game, and if I do say so myself, the absolute best way to start a game. Yuri picked up a rebound off Pender's shot which he then put high on Nadeau. The Moose only had one Power play but they made it totally worth their while.

Lord only knows what happened on the Moose's second goal (by Piette from Desjardins and Cheremetiev). PEI's coach was livid. He bitched and bitched even after the video review but to no avail.

PEI's first goal by Casavant appeared to be some sort of deflection.

Stransky was making a wonderfully shifty play until Guay decided to make love to the ice and block it.

I can't remember what lead to Casavant getting PEI's second goal.

Gabriel Desjardins had an unassisted short handed goal off a shot from the slot, just a couple of feet out from Nadeau. It is nice to actually see guys getting in front of the net for a change. This was the game winner FYI.

Can you spell ZOMBOCRACY. Yeah the reffing was brutal. The Moose had an accumulated 25 minutes of penalty time, while PEI had 11. They took 8 penalties to PEI's 1. At some point we had a penalty, a PEI player was escorted to the box one minute later... then they got a goal...but when I looked at the board we were back to 5 on 5 play. What happened to our PP? Did we have one? Did I miss something? There is no PEI penalty listed for the second period. Maybe the lesson is don't drink and watch hockey. I always thought the two went hand in hand...but then I began to hallucinate imaginary penalties.

So anyway PEI were 1/8 on the power play. Our PK was awesome - or PEI are a bunch of lazy ass hobos.

Tomas Knotek had a penalty shot but couldn't put it past Nadeau.

Simon Olsson is a little cunt*. OK maybe not, because calling him a cunt would be an insult to hard working vaginas everywhere...like his mama's. Olsson tried to start a fight and got Jan Stransky in trouble. Then he did start a fight with Gerrad Grant. What girly fun!!! It is hilarious to see Olsson play tough like a chihuahua. He lost. It was totally a 'watch the weave' fight - ow, the hair. It left Grant with bloodied fingers. I guess he will never be a hand model now.

Unlike some boys on the team *ahem*, Linden Bahm knows how to seal the deal. An empty net goal with 14 seconds remaining in the game left me longing for a smoke... and I don't smoke.

Epic fail QMJHL website! The Q website is listing the match stars as:
  1. PEI - Nadeau, Bobby
  2. PEI - Casavant, Benjamin
  3. PEI - Escott, Jordan
...when they were actually:
1. Hal - Alexis Piette
2. PEI - Benjamin Casavant
3. Hal - Gabriel Desjardins

Rikk has his game photos posted already. Wooo game photos.

Oh BABY WELCOME HOME!!!
Martin Brodeur. First game back. SHUTOUT the Avs 4-0.
Who wants to lick a goalie? If you are pointing at me, you are most definitely correct.

* no real insult intended, I just love the C-word and don't have enough opportunities to use it.

**EDIT- OK so peeps are voting YES in the poll after the game is done and we have defeated PEI. Brilliant. Get brave and vote now!!!

Did somebody here order a pizza?

Wednesday has come and gone, so while my lazy ass started this blog post yesterday, it is not getting online until today...because life is not all about blogging and cooing at young hockey players.

The CHL has named its top 10 as well as its players of the week....and the Q is totally representing.

The CHL top 10 are:
1. Windsor Spitfires (48-6-0-1)
2. Calgary Hitmen (48-7-3-1)
3. Vancouver Giants (46-5-0-3)
4. Shawinigan Cataractes (42-11-2-0)
5. Drummondville Voltigeurs (43-9-0-3)
6. Quebec Remparts (41-10-0-3)
7. Saskatoon Blades (41-13-3-1)
8. Brampton Battalion (36-14-1-1)
9. Belleville Bulls (35-15-2-2)
10. Brandon Wheat Kings (38-15-3-1)

The CHL pizza delivery boy (bow-chicka-wow-wow) of the week is Drummondville's Yannick Riendeau, while the security guard is Moncton goaltender Nicola Riopel. Why are Riendeau and Riopel dressed up as a pizza delivery boy and security guard, respectively, you ask? Sexy games!!! Oh, don't act like you have never seen one of 'those' movies!
Riopel won three games with one shutout posting a goals-against-average of 0.67 and a save percentage of .975. Riopel started his week on Thursday at home to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies where he made 21 saves in the 6-1 win. His best game of the week was on Saturday when the Wildcats hosted the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Riopel earned second star of the game honours with his fifth shutout of the season turning aside all 23 shots fired his way. Riopel was sensational to finish the week on Sunday on the road in Saint John where he was recognized as first star of the game for making 33 saves to beat the Sea Dogs 3-1.

Moose Stuffing:
Sometimes you learn the most delightful things from game programs. One of those things being that Matt Boland's proudest hockey acheivement was having once won an Academic player of the month award. That is just too fucking cute. Then he told us his nickname is Goose, I presume because he is from Gander Nfld and not because he swallows his food without chewing. He is trying to make me want to sit in his lap and mess up his fauxhawk. Stop charming me Boland *side eye*. What are you up to? Nothing good I am sure!

Jan Stransky was January's player of the month for his 6 goals and 2 assists (+2) in 7 games played. Alexis Piette was awarded academic player of the month.

Mark Yetman has started wandering around the ice during breaks in play because he suddenly thinks that he is other goalies. Pffff the other goalies look up, silly fool!!! Look up (oh hello!), or don't look up (pout)... all that matters is that we don't do anything that messes with his 'game'. It has been decent lately, and sometimes it gets downright sexy. Do we give credit to the boy or his beastly *rawr* new beard? We call this goaltender February- March Yeti. Yeah... this is the guy everyone fell in love with at the end of last season. Don't get too attached... it is just a spring fling. Moose fans will use him up and spit him out. They are the cruelest to their tender little netminders.

CIS stuffing:
Former Moosehead Colby Pridham has been playing with the Saint Mary's Huskies hockey team this year.... you know, when he is not wandering around the concourse of the Metro centre longing for his glory days as a Moose. There was an article in the Chronicle Herald earlier this week, and it praised all things Colby Pridham.
But it’s Pridham — who has scored six goals and 22 points but skates against the opponent’s top players — whom SMU head coach Trevor Stienburg says is as valuable to his team as anyone.

"The thing about Colby is that he plays well on both sides of the puck," Stienburg said.

"He has some speed and he’s a very versatile player for us. We can put him in a lot of different positions; we can put him on the point during the power play. He’s a good centreman who understands the game well. He can play in any situation and that’s something not a lot of guys can do."

According to Pridham... "The two-way role is my game and I don’t think that’ll change. Playing both ends of the rink is what I do. I’m not the guy who’s going to be the leading scorer. I think it’s important for myself and the team to take care both ends of the rink. We have lots of guys who can put the puck in the net. I’ll just try to keep them out."

In other AUS news, former Saint John Seadog/Lewiston MAINEiacs goaltender Travis Fullerton's shutout run with the UNB Varsity reds lasted a total of 292 minutes and 39 seconds. How orgasmic is that? It came to an end at the hands of StFX's Will Colbert. In 12 games played Fullerton has a 7:3:0:3* record with a 1.78 GAA and a 0.913 Save %. Those stats are too hot for words...let's just bask in them for a quick second * bask*. After a slow start to the season it is always nice to see a goalie pick it up and reaffirm my faith in him. When it comes to my goalie-loves I hate to make mistakes and choose the wrong boy.

On that note may I also point out that Pier-Olivier Pelletier is leading the OUA with a 1.97 GAA and 0.939 save % in 9 games and a 6:1:0:1 record. Waterloo are the 9th ranked team in the CIS.
I mean, sure he has played less games then all of the other goalies, and stats do not tell you everything about a game, but still, you have got to give him props for this season... and you DO have to awknowledge when stats are totally squeeworthy.

In other AUS/ Former Mooseheads news:

Garrett Peters (SMU) has 3 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in 27 games.
Bryce Swan (StFX) has 13 goals and 9 assists for 22 points in 25 games.
Ryan Seymour (UNB) has 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points in 20 games.

Logan MacMillan (Halifax Mooseheads/ Rimouski Oceanic) has been interviewed for inside the Q.

...and just as a bonus - Peter-James Corsi, who plays for the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL, has 4 goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 28 games. You wanna know about Hiller too? Check it out yourself you damn hobo. I mean, shouldn't the Ryan Hiller dick sucking committee/local newspapers be covering that stuff? I do the vast majority of my cooing at French boys, Newfies and that delightful new undergrad I work with... he smells good and has the fluffiest hair.

* I am well aware that it doesn't add up.... which is why I fixed it to add the Shootout losses.

The Trouble with tribbles...on your face.

Everyone knows that my lust for Travis Fullerton is so strong that I am capable of overlooking the occasional moustache thing he has going on. I may, in fact, even find his moustache kinda sexy. I would lick it.

...and yet my team is currently suffering from a major overdose of hair in the upper lip region. I do not like it. Is it all just a dare? Why is it spreading from face to face? Is it a joke? Goalie mask shadow? Are some of these mistakes from attempted puberty beards gone horribly wrong?

Decide for yourself. I give you in very fuzzy picture format: Jessyko Bernard, Graham Bona, Alexis Piette and Mark Yetman. They didn't start the season looking like this.

Perhaps this is the first ever recorded case of regressive evolution in man. They are regressing from Homo sapien back into Bryceus swanicus.

Hey Playa, THAT feels even better.

Tonight the Mooseheads took on the MAINEiacs at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. This time we won - WITH A SHUTOUT. I don't even have to pull out a calculator to figure out the save percentage on this one, as Mark Yetman stopped 43 of 43 shots for the win.

How stressful were the last two minutes of play? Answer - so very f'n stressful. We gave Lewiston a power play with just under two minutes remaining in the game and had to finish it off playing 4 on 6 hockey.

Mooseheads goals were scored by rookies Ned O'Brien (Linden Bahm, Justin Pender) and Chad Earle (Linden Bahm, Gerrad Grant), both in the first period. One of the most beautiful moments was after Chad Earle's goal when one unidentified Moosehead player totally biffed it while celebrating the goal. I did indeed "laugh out loud". I love when stupid unpredictable things happen during hockey games.

Once again this year we have to be careful about turning the puck over and giving our opponents a chance to score on our power play. Knotek did this twice. Since Mark was there to save the day I will not banish Knotek to the sofa, but he will be sleeping at the foot of the bed with no blankets.

Alexis Piette was today's faceoff master winning 14 of 19 draws. Unfortunately, he was the stressinator who got a penalty at 18:15 of the 3rd. If Mark is smart he will slap him upside the head for threatening his shutout bid.

Mark was good at corralling the rebounds and he made a most delightful glove save with about 4 minutes left in the game. He was huggin' posts, preventing rebounds, and playin' the puck like a pro. Playin' like only a playa' can play. When I went to bed last night I was all like grrrr Yetman. When I woke up this morning I was all like grrrr Yetman... and yet right now Mark is looking amazingly dreamy. Think of all the sexy fun times we could have with that 'first star' (and Linden Bahm). Rawr.

The three stars are:
  1. HAL - Yetman, Mark
  2. HAL - Bahm, Linden
  3. LEW - Wright, Philip
