Monday updates: ahhh, there you are.

1) QMJHL offensive and defensive players of the week
Offensive props go to Mikhail Stefanovich of the Quebec Remparts, for 7 goals (2 game winners) and an assist, in three games last week. Chabot (Gatineau), Brown (Moncton) and Adam (Montreal) were also considered.

Defensive props go to ex-boyfriend Guillaume Monast. Ugh - take off that filthy Remparts Jersey, it does not do you justice, sweet Guillaume. Here, let me show you in a Moose jersey... ahhh much better. Guy had 8 assists in three games last week. Nicola Riopel (Moncton - since when is he not nominated?), Charles Lavigne (Quebec) and Alain Goulet (Gatineau) were also rans.

2) Sportsnet Who's Hot/ Who's Not
Hot team: Quebec Remparts
Hot player: Mikhail Stefanovich (Remparts)
Cold Team: Lewiston Maineiacs
Cold Player: Maxim Gougeon

HaHa Gougeon sucks. I know that is mean, but I can't help it. Everyone needs an enemy, and Gougeon is my make-believe enemy. Such meticulously groomed facial hair can only mean one thing - he is evil. A flopping, small, evil, little, net troll.

God luck with your Memorial Cup run, suckas (that is TOTALLY going to came back to bite me in the ass. Never kick a wounded dog.)

3)Trades:
It has happened. Captain Alex has been booted from the Sea Dogs. According to the QMJHL website: The Saint John Sea Dogs traded all-star defenseman Alex Grant (89-01-20) and a fifth round pick in 2010 to the Shawinigan Cataractes for Danick Gauthier (91-10-24), a second round pick in 2009 and a first round selection in 2010.

Sea Dogs GM
Jacques Beaulieu said “It was a difficult decision to trade Alex. He has been a major part of the Sea Dogs for a long time and has done a lot for this franchise - both on and off the ice. We’re excited to be adding Danick Gauthier to our roster, and we wish Alex all the best in all of his future endeavours.” ...but with Grant's lackluster 2008-2009 season it seems like the writing was on the wall with this trade for quite some time.

Grant was a QMJHL first overall draft pick, and the Sea Dog's first ever draft selection as a league expansion team in 2005. He was also a fourth round selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2007 NHL entry draft.

Weird to see Alex go. What are the Sea Dogs without Captain Alex, and will Kirky then get the captaincy?

Also (edit*):
Amyot to Halifax? - hmmmm. FYI, the Moose currently have 9 defencemen (Bona, Pender, MacAskill, O'Connor, MacDonald, McDonald, Dunn, Matheson, and Greer)... Amyot makes 10.
Yep. It's a done deal. Welcome Pascal. The Moose have swapped our 1st round pics in the European draft with the Saint John Sea Dogs, and given up a 4th round QMJHL draft pick in 2010. This means we now have to clear at least three players from our roster.

This is bound to be a running edit- trades are going on like crazy today - Rimouski picked up 19 year old goaltender Matt Dopud from Rouyn-Noranda. Rimouski LOVES tiny goalies. Lookit- Gougeon - 5'8", Dopud -5'9", Perreault - 5'8", and Lacerte at a whopping 5'11".

4) What the hells?:
Gatineau 10, Drummondville 2 - shiiiiiiit

Sticking with goalie talk

I have so much to say about everything - like Gatineau being out of the Memorial cup in three games, but it hurts too much to talk about it. Love and loss is one of the most painful things. Just ask Gatineau captain J-P Chabot about the pain - he was crying, I was not. I have almost gone numb when it comes to hockey this season, every round I pick a new lover, about a week later they dump my ass. I have gone through 7 hockey lovers between the QMJHL and the NHL so far this playoff season. Do you see why I have gone numb?

If you need Memorial cup coverage you can check out the official Memorial cup webpage. The QMJHL website has also covered Gatineau's downfall in the Memorial cup tournament. I will stick with NJ draft pick Matt Halischuk and the Rangers for now (lover #8, Detroit Red Wings will be lover #9 by default). I also find Ranger's goaltender Josh Unice wonderfully spriggin - his little nose and pouty upper lip look cute peeking out from behind his helmet. Am I charmed by his mommasboyness? It is not a good feature for real boyfriends, but it is so sweet when imaginary boyfriends are mommasboys.

Also, ummm he has really great eyebrows. You know I had to mention it eventually, what with my eyebrow fetish and all. You can oogle Josh, his pixie nose, his pouty upper lip and his awesome eyebrows at this photo gallery. Unfortunately, you cannot judge his 'game' by looking at photos. I bet he totally takes eyebrow grooming tips from teammate Steve Mason, who has such rawkin' brows that he is a chairperson in my eyebrow club. Mase is adorable with his helmet on and with the crunchy-crunchy faces that he makes. Also - hello! He is the grown-up version of baby Steve Mason - who is a deadringer for my immaculate conception baby, the baby fathered by the essence of Pelletier, Bernier and Fullerton.

What are the odds of a team having two goalies with RAWKIN' eyebrows? Is it a Kitchener conspiracy?

Ugh as I type this Kitchener have lost in OT and are 1-2 for the round robin. I suck at picking lovers. Poor Unice, the puck went off his head, and the Bulls got a goal on the rebound when he was still discombobulated.

GOALIES in the QMJHL:
Ryan Mior
I had been wondering where Olympique's goaltender Ryan Mior would be playing University hockey next year. I was out facebook stalking (not stalking Mior - but someone else) when I came across Mior's profile which had him listed on the University of Ottawa Network. It would make sense for him to be there for his post QMJHL career since he is currently living in the region and probably already enrolled in classes there. However, he may not have actually been admitted to a University team yet. An article from canwest news services states "Ryan Mior, who set QMJHL records for games played by a goaltender and shutouts, is also finished playing junior hockey, perhaps moving on to university hockey." Key word -PERHAPS. Leaving me with nothing but speculation is no fun for me.

Antoine Tardif

According to L'Express, Antoine has had a successful surgery on his ankle. Doctors had originally speculated that he would have to stay off of the ankle for 6 weeks but when they went in for arthroscopic examination they determined that the source of his pain was due to one of his torn ligaments slipping between the ankle joints. Antoine should be back on his feet within the week. At least I think this is what they are saying - the article is in French and my French skills are shifty. What I do know is that my kisses did his ankle well. Now that I get a closer look at Antoine's brows they don't look that great in the center - he needs some grooming. He is out of the club.

Drummondville : Pelletier, Gougeon, Tardif and the goalie coach that rocks.
There is an interview with Drummondville goalie coach Marco Marciano in the Drummondville edition of L'Express. Marco worked with Gougeon and Pelletier last season, with Gougeon, Dupont and Dunnett this season, and will be helping Tardif and Dunnett along next season. Marco is proud of Gougeon's play in the finals and thinks that 'the Gouge' should do well despite being a toy goalie.

However, he is confused about why P-O's season went so wrong, and does not understand how it happened that Pier fell so far as to allow Yetman to steal the number one job in nets for Halifax come playoff time. When I say "fell so far" I mean, "not given a legitimate chance to play again" once Yeti was able to win a game (something he did not do, nor was he really given the chance to do, between Dec 27 and Feb 24). Which reminds me - we treated our 'tenders like shit!!!

Marco essentially said that you have to push P-O, as was done at the beginning of the 2006-07 season when Pier had a slow start coming off of injury, but once he is pumped up he will play excellently. After training camps with Detroit last year, and before coming to Halifax, P-O was apparently rocking it and Marco saw him as a potential AHL goalie for last season. He wishes P-O the best of luck for a future pro- career in the upcoming season. Me too P-O, me too. Coo.

Marco seems good, what with the fact that he is involved with Hockey Canada's development program - and he stresses the ability to handle the puck. You can read an older interview with him at the QMJHL website. He has worked with MAF, Houle, and my very own sweet sensitive Jonathan Bernier (in baby form).

Maybe P-O should go back to train with Marco this summer. He should also check in with a sports psychologist since it worked wonders for Mior. Trust me, it wasn't you P-O, it was 'us'. Lewiston's goaltending coach is also big on having a psychologist around to help out.

I don't talk about this a lot, but it was P-O's eyebrows themselves that inspired the eyebrow club - they are thick but they have the best arch. In fact, he is the silent co-owner of the club. He also inspires my weakness for pixie noses and pouty upper lips. Do I need more clubs?

Rouyn-Noranda vs Olympiques Game 2: Sorry Huskies, I did you wrong

I have been slow at writing my Q update because of IIHF fever, NHL fever and oh, yeah, that pesky hour long presentation I have been preparing for Monday - the only thing not getting done is the presentation. I sit here mid-Stars vs Sharks (after the second OT) trying to rejuvenate my mind with a little shot of Brett Morrison. Brett is a wee spriggin' looking fellow who has been tossed around the Q (Gatineau, PEI, Rouyn-Noranda) and passed over for two drafts before getting a tryout with the oilers and finally being taken fifth round in the 2007 draft by Anaheim. Brett looks good for a boy from Cape Breton, so spriggin' (like Kirky), so clean, so fresh and so tidy - thus so much different than boys like handlebar 'stache Swan, Joey Haddad, Murd MacLellan or Ryan Sparling (who, although he looks clean, you just know he is pure evil). Yes Brett is from Cape Breton and he has pixie face - it is possible.

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies did a complete 180 and defeated the Gatineau Olympiques 6-2. Brett was the playingest player with 1 goal and 3 assists. Michael Debuc also potted 2 goals and 1 assist. The Huskies scored 5 unanswered goals in the first two periods, driving Ryan Mior from the nets. Mior is a mad man, he could do anything. Is he angry, will he be back with a vengeance, have the Huskies been slaughtered in their sleep? We will not know until May 6th.

Gatineau were finally able to respond with two goals in the third by Prokop and Chabot, before pulling my new 'baby boyfriend' and 'cuddling partner' Maxime Clermont from the nets in the final minutes of the game. Huskies finished them off with an empty net goal by Debuc. The Olympiques then had to put 'Cuddly Clermont' back in nets because they knew they were boned. You can check out the scoring recap at the QMJHL website. Pictures can be seen at the Huskies website.

I was also wrong by saying that the Huskies would not be able to keep their penalties down, but they only allowed 4 and killed off all of them. In the meantime they got 4 of their 6 goals on the power play with a 80% pp efficiency. I am going to have to give props to 'the Gouge' for his 0.935 save % and the fact that he had an assist. Mind you he only faced 6 dangerous shots. Props come in the form of a picture - a picture from his days as a Volt because I have no good pictures from his visit as a Huskie.

Maxim Gougeon is seen here lookin' like a Volt but he is really a Huskie. I call this seeing the world through Volt coloured glasses.

We should all still be trying to guess what the 'piques secret weakness is.

Dear Carey Price
I still totally heart you. How could a girl stay angry at a boy with those sad puppy dog eyes? Do you want to cuddle, because I would totally be down with that. No, keep the gear on!!!

The Q have published a little PDF with lifetime playoff stats for players currently on active rosters. Look at P-O Pelletier amoung the top of stats for all 5 goalie categories. Why? Because despite some VERY crap games this year (the whole team was mired in crap) and being usurped by Mark "the usurper" Yetman for the playoffs, I think he actually is very awesome. You can see it in the way he moves.
