Monday Updates: Hey Slaney....

...is that a big fat paycheck from the Toronto Maple Leafs in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? According to reports in the Cape Breton Post, 21 year old Eagles winger, my Screaming Eagles boyfriend, all around smart guy with a kicky Newf accent, and sometimes Dustin Tokarski look-alike Robert Slaney has signed a three year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In your face Carolina!!!

“It’s been in discussion for the past two weeks and we got her done,” said Slaney

Ummmm did he just say "we got her done"? What they meant to write there was "we got 'er done". Sports writer Greg MacVicar is clearly not a proud Caper (or a Newf).

The Screaming Eagles are currently faceing the Quebec Remparts in the second round of the QMJHL playoffs and are leading the series 3-2. Slaney has been out of the Eagles line-up for this series due to an undisclosed upper body injury, possibly a broken jaw.

All of my hopes and dreams rest with the Eagles. They are the only Eastern Division team left in the playoffs and despite the fact that they are the Mooseheads sworn enemy, I am a Caper and, as such, the Eagles and I used to date. I still have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for them. Ahhhhhh young love.

Also, if they stay in the game I may be able to make a quick romp (it will only take 5 hours) down to CB to squeeze in some playoff hockey. All we need to do to make that happen is to pray to Olivier Roy, last week's ADT CHL goaltender of the week. Blessed be Roy.

Oh My Fucking GOD - Bobby Nadeau is coming to Dalhousie

OMG OMG OMG. Bobby Nadeau is going to be playing for the Dalhousie Tigers next season. He is coming here because he wants to play more eye contact games with me. Yeah, that's it! Either that, or he is coming here because he wants me to TA him in Biology. I wonder if he is more into the natural sciences (ecology) of the fun sciences (molecular biology, development, physiology and neuroscience). I need to know this so that I can decide which course I will need to TA next year. Bobby seems like a "fun sciences" kinda guy.

He has been on my mind lately, for you see, I even had a dream about him last night - totally non-sexual. I was wondering why oh why my dearest Bobby was never on the professional hockey radar - at least not in any serious way. My dream revolved around this concept. My boyfriend suggested that Nadeau fails at looking good enough in the pipes for professional hockey playing status because Bobby has an affity for shitty teams. This appears to be true.

Then I wake up and my dreams have, in a sense, come true. A dreamy goatender right outside my door. A nerdy, glasses-wearing, science-loving, total poindexter goaltender.

According to an article in the Metro:
“I think Bobby Nadeau is the start of the process here,” said Belliveau, who won a national title with the Moncton Aigles Bleus in 1995. “I think he’s the top 20-year-old in the QMJHL. It’s his skill, character and mental toughness.”

Belliveau said Nadeau maintains an A average in courses at the University of Prince Edward Island and wants to pursue a career in dentistry at Dalhousie. He describes Nadeau as “the kind of person we want to associate ourselves with.”

The Tigers are also working on recruiting Cape Breton Screaming Eagles star Robert Slaney, a high-scoring power forward who is interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

Belliveau, who joined the Tigers last season and went 4-23-1, would only say that he has “a lot of lines in the water” and that he hopes Nadeau’s commitment helps.

“It might be a domino effect,” said Belliveau. “He has a lot of friends in the Q who are very, very good hockey players. We might get more recruits through him.”

*GASP* ... and Slaney ---- Robert Slaney "my Eagles boyfriend", oh yeah Tigers you totally need to be tapping into THAT.

nightmares

You leave town for a couple of days and it's like the whole world goes into a tailspin. The Caper Boys must have gotten wind of the fact that I was back on the island. Robert Slaney being the smart Newf that he was turned to Joey Haddad and said run Motherf*cker run. Not that Joey, Robert or the rest of their forwardly brethren need be scared of me. Truth be told - Joey Haddad actually scares me and I am the one who should be running.

So if you think that is scary, you should see the way he just sits there parked by the side of the net, just waiting to pass the puck off to some guy sitting on the other side of the net. In their 8 regular season games against the Moose in 2007-2008, Joey had 2 goals and 7 assists. He is the stuff of nightmares. When he is not playing hockey he hides in children's closets and under their beds.

Irrespective of who should be running away from whom (I have made it back off the island alive) both of us appear to be running somewhere. According to an article published in the Cape Breton Post Joey will be attending the Pittsburgh Penguins training camp. It's just another reason to hate the Penguins.

I wish I had something a little softer, sweeter, smarter and Newfier to look at!!!

Ah yes, Robert Slaney, the smart kid who was equally a thorn in the side of the Mooseheads this past season, racking up 4 goals and 8 assists in 8 games. Damn that boy. For all of his valiant effort and his supposedly giant 'brain' Robert has earned a tryout with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Some of those CB boys have to get a contract or get traded - they have too many overage players (5 that I can count: Culligan, Hadded, Slaney, Lamontagne, Concoran).

But Cape Breton do not want to think about that right now - they have happier events in their lives to organize since they, along with Saint John NB, will now play host to a portion of the QMJHL Canada Russia Challenge series which takes place in November.

If landing the QMJHL draft was their wedding shower then this is their wedding. Cape Breton had best be prepared to receive a lot of doilies and lace table cloths - I know this because I have been to many a Cape Breton wedding. I mean honestly, what young woman doesn't want her own doilies and lace table cloth collection?

Moose vs Eagles: Game 2. Thank the Gods for wins.

Quick notes:

Why don’t the refs just get on their knees and suck Robert Slaney off. Frack (someone likes Battlestar galactica). I mean we still won, but get real refs….I could see some of those three power play goals coming. They will haunt me in my dreams. Someone keep an eye on that little bitch. Just because he is smart that does not mean there is a force-field of invincibility around him. Moose - don’t leave him alone beside the net.

Now that I have had a brief brush with insanity I hope I can recover. Yetman got the third star of the game after stopping 29 of 33 shots (17 of which were classified as dangerous). Bryce Swan is now eligible to apply for God status, and bless RD Chisholm’s little soul. If young boys can crush out on older chicks like Shannon Slaughter, there is always hope for chicks like me (theoretically- and that is all that matters). Oh, and that Marchand guy with the funny eyebrows got the first star because our local media likes the guy with 3 assists more than they like a guy with two goals (take your pick of Corsi or Swan) - even if the guy with two goals has the game winner (Swan from Knotek and White puppy).

Hooray for Keven and Fully. My other favorite # 22 Keven GuĂ©rette-Charland had a hat trick tonight and received the first star of the game as Saint John defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-2. I will have to look up some good cookie recipes - I promised Simon cookies and it looks like the Dogs are indeed pulling this off. Travis Fullerton was the third star with a 0.939 save percentage and 31 saves on 33 shots (with 15 dangerous shots) and Francois Gauthier was the second star. Talk about Pavlovian conditioning- I have lost my knickers and I am drooling already but I haven’t even seen the game. Sea Dogs – you are #1 on my to-do list. Not only that but the Titan appeared to have pulled Champion and put Brad Dyke in for the last five minutes of the game. What is the point… and where is Szostak? That boy gets no love.

more later....
